Available classes

Prenatal classes

To book prenatal classes, call the Obstetric Clinic at 416-867-7421 or ask the front desk staff at one of your clinic visits

We offer classes to help prepare you for birth and parenthood. Classes include hands-on exercises, videos, take-home materials, information on relaxation and breathing techniques. There is always lots of time for questions and discussion.

Tours of our labour and delivery floor are included in the classes.

L&D tours

To book a tour of the hospital, call the Prenatal Clinic at 416-867-7421 or ask the front desk staff at one of your clinic visits

Prenatal tours include the labour and birth unit and postpartum (after delivery) ward. Tours take place every Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Breastfeeding supports

We offer breastfeeding support, counseling and education. Our lactation consultants will work with you to develop a breastfeeding plan so you can achieve your breastfeeding goals.

    • If the doctor caring for you and your baby is at St. Michael’s, we are open:
      • Tuesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon
      • Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.
      • Please call 416-867-7421 to make an appointment for a one-on-one session with a lactation consultant
    • We also offer drop-in hours for any breast feeding individual:
      • Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Breast pumps and breastfeeding accessories are available to buy in the clinic.

Advanced Nursery

The St. Michael's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a 20-bed advanced Level 2 C nursery providing care for babies born early and those who may need extra care. Our team includes: neonatologists, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, registered dietitian, social worker, lactation consultant, pharmacist, neonatal nursing staff and respiratory therapists.

Care by parent room

We have a Care by parent facility for parents who have been discharged from hospital but whose babies are not yet ready to go home.

Amenities of the labour and delivery floor


  • Regardless whether you are a patient, family member or friend, free Wi-Fi is available throughout St. Michael’s.
  • Television with cable available upon request.


  • Oversized labour and delivery rooms, all with en-suite bathroom that have a large walk-in shower and Jacuzzi tub
  • Post delivery stay is in either a private or semi-private room

The Baby Tuck Shop

Our Baby Tuck Shop provides free essential maternity and baby items to some families receiving their obstetrical care at St. Michael’s Hospital, depending on their circumstances.

Individuals can visit the shop twice during pregnancy, once for a maternity visit any time after 20 weeks and once for a baby visit any time after 36 weeks. Items are subject to availability. Available items include baby care products and clothing.

The shop is open on Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. If you are a patient receiving prenatal care at St. Michael’s Hospital and could benefit from visiting the Baby Tuck Shop please ask your nurse, doctor or social worker for a voucher.

My Baby and Me Passport Program

The My Baby and Me Passport Program helps to increase access to prenatal care and community services for women who do not have stable housing.

To find out if you are eligible for the Passport Program please speak to a member of your obstetric health care team.

My Chart

St. Michael’s new, online patient portal can show you your test results online, along with other parts of your St. Michael’s health record. It’s a great tool to help you monitor and share your own health information, and participate in your own care.

Sign up for MyChart to see your:

  • Lab results (e.g. blood tests)
  • Medical imaging reports (e.g. summaries of X-rays and ultrasounds)
  • Notes written in your hospital file
  • Instructions that were given to you when you were discharged from hospital (for inpatients only)
  • Upcoming appointments

How do I register for MyChart?

To sign up for MyChart, you must come to the hospital in person with your OHIP card. This step can’t be done by email or phone.

There are two ways to sign up:

  • At Patient Registration on the first floor of Donnelly Wing South, one floor above the Queen St. entrance.
  • At your next outpatient clinic appointment – just ask at reception. Please note that our Family Health Team can’t sign patients up for MyChart at this time.
  • Our staff will ask for your email address, OHIP card and photo ID. Next, we’ll send you an email with a MyChart link and PIN number. The email will come from Click the MyChart link in the email, and follow the instructions. Once you complete your registration online, you can log in at anytime to look at your health record.
