Welcome to the Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Program

NOTICE

The location of your appointment may have changed. Please ensure you have been in touch with your specialist before proceeding to the hospital.

To protect the safety of our patients, staff and physicians, we will be pre-screening all patients booked for urgent, in-person appointments for COVID-19 symptoms. You will receive a phone call from your specialist’s clinic 24 to 48 hours before your appointment. You will then be screened for symptoms again before entering St. Michael’s Hospital. After both screenings, you will be given a location for your appointment.

If you do not hear from your specialist within 24 to 48 hours before your appointment, please reach out to them directly.

Founded in 1983, the Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Program at St. Michael’s Hospital is the largest adult hemophilia program in Canada. Our program offers multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of patients with congenital and acquired coagulation disorders.

Our highly-trained staff includes hematologists, rheumatologist, nurses, physiotherapist, social worker, dietitian, specialized laboratory technicians and administrative staff.

Assessment clinics are held twice weekly on Monday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. During your visit, you will be accessed by one of our hematologists and a nurse. Our other team members will also be available and will assess you based on your needs. Our rheumatologist is available on the third Tuesday of every month to address musculoskeletal concerns.

We support your needs for homecare infusion. We train, monitor and support all our patients enrolled in our homecare therapy program.

When possible and appropriate urgent/non-urgent assessment and treatment of bleeds will be performed Monday to Friday during regular office hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call our nursing team as much in advance to ensure there is staff available to care for your needs.

For emergency concerns after hours or on the weekends, please contact the on-call hematologist for consultation.

Our specialist in dental care, orthopedics, gastroenterology, surgery and infectious disease who are familiar with the needs of the hemophilia population are available for consultation and referrals if needed.

We are dedicated to provide care to the bleeding disorders population and those who take care of them.
