Electrophysiology laboratory and catheter ablation
The electrophysiology laboratory is an area where invasive procedures are performed to diagnose and/or treat various heart rhythm problems. Most patients are admitted to hospital the day of the procedure and are usually discharged the following day. Patient information

Device implantation
A variety of cardiac devices can be implanted in or close to the heart to diagnose and treat various heart rhythm problems. This includes pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, and internal loop recorders. Procedures to implant these devices are done in the arrhythmia operating room. Most of these procedures are done through day surgery, such that patients are discharged home the same day of the procedure. Cardioversion
Patients who have a rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter may require a shock to the heart in order to restore a normal rhythm.
