Dr. Flora Matheson is a medical sociologist who applies a gender lens to her work to improve treatment for mental health and addiction. She is particularly interested in:
- Improving the health of people in prison by looking at screening and treatment for traumatic brain injury and exploring experiences of trauma.
- Improving the correctional system to ensure people in prison have access to treatment for mental health problems and drug and alcohol addiction.
- Exploring and addressing problem gambling, in particular among people facing homelessness, mental health problems and/or drug and alcohol addiction.
Dr. Matheson is an affiliated scientist in the Mental Health and Addictions Program at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, an Assistant Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (University of Toronto) and an Associate Graduate Faculty Member at the Centre for Criminology & Sociolegal Studies (University of Toronto).
