Victoria Street entrance is closed

The Victoria Street entrance has closed permanently. This is to continue our work renovating and expanding our Emergency Department.
Please use the Queen Street entrance.
Thank you for your patience while we build.

Shuter Street water main replacement and road resurfacing

Between August and December, the City of Toronto is replacing the water main and resurfacing Shuter between Yonge and Sherbourne Streets. Although Shuter will remain open during this work, plan for potential traffic delays around the hospital. Learn more on the City of Toronto downtown construction projects page.

Construction on the 5th floor, Bond Wing

Construction is taking place on the 5th floor of our Bond Wing to renovate our surgical day care unit. The duration of the project is 6 to 7 months. The first phase of this project will require demolition of the existing services on the floor, causing noise and vibrations that could be disruptive to others in the Bond Wing. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Victoria Street lobby

Construction is ongoing inside the Victoria Street lobby. Temporary walls along the west side of the lobby to protect the area from dust and debris while construction begins for the expansion of the Emergency Department have reduced the size of the corridor to the Cardinal Carter South elevators. While all efforts will be made to reduce noise and vibrations, the work may be disruptive at times.

Intermittent delays on Victoria Street

The contractor has begun a new stage of work on the patient care tower that will require removing formwork from one floor and installing it on the floor above. During the removal, the formwork must be lifted above Victoria Street. To do this work safely, intermittent traffic stoppages will be required on Victoria Street. These stoppages will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., each lasting approximately five to 10 minutes. There will be two to three stoppages per day until September. Work will not take place during the evening rush hour. A paid duty officer will be on site to assist and access will be maintained for emergency vehicles.

Fracture Clinic

The entrance to the Fracture Clinic, located just east of our Queen Street entrance, is partially obstructed by construction fencing. The entrance remains open and accessible. Signage on the fence directs to the Fracture Clinic doors. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Parking lot closure

The public parking lot at Queen and Victoria streets has been closed and turned over to Bondfield Construction for the construction of the Peter Gilgan Patient Care Tower. There are several alternative lots nearby, including:

  • Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute (entrance on Victoria Street)
  • Behind Metropolitan United Church on the east side of Bond Street
  • A Green P lot across from the hospital’s Queen Street entrance
