Keenan Research Centre - Students & Trainees

Research Training Centre - Information for New Trainees

Before you begin your training, you will receive a package with required forms from your supervisor. You will be required to complete several forms and submit these to the Office of Research Administration. The instructions for completing these forms are also included in the package. Your supervisor will also be responsible for completing several of these forms.

Once you have received the package from your supervisor, any questions you have about completing the forms can be directed to Cordelia Cooper, Research Employment Coordinator in the Office of Research Administration at CooperC@smh.ca.

Registering with the Research Training Centre

When you receive your package from your supervisor, you will be provided with an RTC Registration Form to complete. If you have not received an RTC Registration form, please complete and submit it to rtc@smh.ca

Only trainees who work with supervisors with faculty appointments at the University of Toronto are eligible for university library access. Library cards are updated biannually, and you must submit your application for library access in advance of the biannual deadlines of June 30 and December 31.

To obtain instructions on how to apply for library card access, please contact Dina Coronios in the Office of Research Administration at CoroniosD@smh.ca well in advance of the biannual deadlines.

Living in Toronto

Here are some useful websites for starting life in Toronto.

Finding an Apartment
Getting Around

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is a quick, convenient and safe way to get around Toronto. Payment methods for using the TTC include:

  • Cash (have the exact fare ready)
  • Tickets or tokens (cheaper and more convenient than paying cash, and you can buy them at any subway station or any store displaying the ticket agent sign)
  • Daily/weekly/monthly metro pass: purchase them from ticket agents, subway station collectors or machines. Monthly passes are transferable and you get a tax credit (keep your pass for tax purposes).

Children under 24 months ride for free. Children (12 and under) and students (19 and under) need a TTC Student Discount Card.
