Impact of major trauma on organ injury
Selected Publications
Research Activities
Trauma victims are at increased risk of developing organ injury in the early post-trauma period. Our research group studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms whereby resuscitated hemorrhagic shock is able to predispose trauma victims to the development of organ dysfunction. We utilize multiple experimental approaches including in vitro systems to study cellular mechanism as well as in vivo models to test relevance at the organ and whole body level.
Other Activities
- Director of the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto
- Vice-Chair, Surgical Forum Committee, American College of Surgeons
- Scholarship Committee, American College of Surgeons
- Chair, Expert Panel in General Surgery, Ontario
Educational Activities
Our laboratory is committed to graduate student training at the M.Sc. and PhD levels through an appointment to the Institute of Medical Science. We also train MD research fellows as well as postdoctoral fellows. The laboratory is a vibrant research environment with multiple students, PIs and technicians interacting daily through journals clubs, lab meetings and personal attention to individual student needs.
