Research Activities
My research interests relate to the molecular pathology of diabetic complications and in particular kidney disease in diabetes. Diabetic nephropathy is the most common cause of kidney failure in Canada. My laboratory is committed to finding new treatments to slow or even reverse the progression of kidney disease. Our research is truly translational, studying the cellular processes involved in the development of the cardiovascular complications of diabetes and investigating the action of novel therapies both in vitro and in vivo. Through this, we hope to bring new treatments directly from the bench to the bedside. My research is focused on the critical role of high blood pressure in the progression of kidney disease and I am studying new ways to stimulate endothelial regeneration, the repair of the small blood vessels, damaged due to diabetes.
Educational Activities
I am an associate member of the Institute of Medical Sciences and am open to applications from graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
