Applied Health Research Centre - Privacy

At the AHRC we strive to adopt a culture of privacy in our activities and are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of the information we use for research projects. This is reflected in:

Orientation of new staff

New staff joining the AHRC will participate in a "Information Privacy and Security" session given by the Privacy Officer of SMH, where relevant information from the Ontario's Privacy Legislation PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act) is reviewed.

Privacy and Confidentiality Agreements

On an annual basis all employees are required to read and sign a Privacy and Confidentiality Agreement.

Privacy Guidelines

A set of guidelines distributed to new staff upon initiation of their activities at the AHRC which:

  • Encourages the use of secure passwords on LAN, stand alone, laptop computers and PDAs
  • Prohibits the storage of unencrypted confidential information on any portable device (stand alone computer, laptop computer, memory key, CD, DVD, or any PDA)
