Contracts - Clinical Research

As a founding member, St. Michael's Hospital follows the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO) Clinical Trial Agreement principles, an initiative to harmonize clinical trial review with other academic hospitals in Ontario. Companies are encouraged to use the CAHO principles when developing their contract templates in order to expedite negotiation.

St. Michael's Hospital provides the following information, links and templates as assistance to companies seeking to conduct clinical research at our site.

Company-initiated Clinical Trials

As a member of the clinical study agreement working group, a group of Toronto-area hospitals, St. Michael's Hospital also suggests use of the attached template (89 KB pdf file). Companies seeking to avoid lengthy negotiations may use this template or language from it in negotiation with St. Michael's Hospital.

Combined Negotiations

St. Michael's Hospital often participates in combined negotiations (where a company negotiates a clinical research agreement template with several sites in one negotiation). Combined negotiations help reduce the overall time spent negotiating study agreements. Sites in a combined negotiation share negotiation information and choose one negotiator to be the lead in negotiations with the company. In order to initiate a combined negotiation, please notify St. Michael's Hospital of the other sites to be included in the negotiation.

Investigator-initiated Clinical Trials

Please use our industry grant agreement template (29 KB doc file) for funding clinical research developed by our researchers.
