Geriatric Services

Geriatric services are available Monday to Friday in the emergency department for patients who would benefit from additional geriatric expertise. Our geriatric emergency management (GEM) nurse works with emergency staff to provide a specialized assessment for patients with a variety of concerns, including falls, memory difficulties and a change in day-to-day function. Some patients seen by our GEM nurse may be referred to the elder's clinic. Other options will be explored to improve home supports, as needed.

Please let the emergency staff know if you would like to be seen by our GEM nurse. After hours, our emergency staff may ask your permission to have the GEM nurse give you a follow-up call.
