Patients are transferred from other medical units to the AGU. The
unit is for patients who are medically stable and who would benefit
from further assessment by a team of geriatric experts. The average
length of stay is two to three weeks. Many patients who participate
in this program are able to return home to independent living.
Our internal consultation team (ICT) may be asked to see patients
who would benefit from additional geriatric expertise while they are
in the Hospital. The ICT works closely with the patient's healthcare
team and may make recommendations for your plan of care.
The Hospital’s elder care working group promotes best practices for the care of the elderly. A specialist nurse is responsible for leading Hospital-wide elder care initiatives and for working with staff to enhance our care of the elderly.
