Nutrition
Education: Application Criteria
Academics
- The focus is on third and fourth year marks in nutrition courses
and on core courses relevant to program activity (such as physiology
and research methods).
- A relative ranking is completed by the reviewer.
- Awards and other degrees are noted.
Experience
- Both employment and volunteer work are considered. Please note
them separately on your resume.
- Relevant experience and evidence of skills and skill advancement
are of interest. For example, what did you get out of an experience
that will help you in your future? Being a firefighter or caring
for an infant may be just as relevant as working as a dietary aide.
- Both breadth and depth of experience are important considerations.
For example, did you take on added responsibilities over time? At
what level were you working, committee member or president?
Confidential Reference Letters
- Ensure that you choose people who can speak to the skills needed
to complete the internship.
- We review each referee’s ranking and comments and determine
average score.
- The importance of referees and the familiarity of each referee
with the applicant’s experiences, skills and aptitudes are
considered.
Personal Letter
- Do you demonstrate a good sense of your personal goals and objectives,
strengths and weaknesses?
- Have you considered how the nutrition program will fit with your
needs?
- Does the letter provide a sense of your individual personality
and style?
Overall Impression
- Reviewers may modify your score based upon the overall impression
of your application. For example, reviewers consider if there is
evidence of skills that will assist in the program, such as self
direction, problem solving, leadership, people skills, communication,
time management, teamwork, ability to work under pressure and more.
Based on the screening of applications, individuals are selected for an interview.
Applications should be sent to the attention of the co-ordinator of
nutrition and dietetic education.
