Renal Services - Nocturnal Hemodialysis
The nocturnal hemodialysis program is unique to St. Michael's Hospital and provides treatment for patients who are either unable to perform home dialysis therapy or who are working towards home therapy.
We select patients who require extended treatment times on a regular basis, whether for medical management of their end-stage renal disease or for lifestyle reasons. Patients are treated in the main hemodialysis unit overnight, while they sleep, by nurses who are trained in dialysis. Treatments happen three times per week.
Routine follow-up care is provided through regular clinic visits. Improved mineral metabolism and general well-being are among the benefits patients have received from the program.
