Substance Abuse and Mental Illness (SAMI) Program

The SAMI program provides assessment, consultation and treatment for individuals with concurrent diagnoses of substance abuse and serious mental illness. Although abstinence may be a goal for some clients of the program, others may require assistance with harm reduction and other motivational techniques to reduce use.

The team consists of psychiatrists and a registered nurse.

Services include:

  • Assessment, consultation and diagnostic clarification.
  • Individual counselling.
  • Group therapy for individuals at various stages of change.
  • Community-based motivational and educational groups for hard-to-reach populations as identified by partnership agencies.
  • Referrals to community services, including other substance abuse treatment programs.
