Dr. Jerry Teitel
Dr. Teitel has been medical director of the St. Michael’s Hospital Hemophilia Treatment Centre since its founding in 1983.
He received his doctor of medicine from the University of Toronto. He later did clinical fellowships in internal medicine and hematology at the University of Toronto, and a research fellowship in coagulation at Harvard University. He was then appointed to the medical staff at St. Michael’s Hospital, and to the University of Toronto, where he now holds the rank of professor. He served as division head of Hematology and Oncology at St. Michael’s Hospital for 15 years, and he continues as the medical director of the Specialized Complex Care Program.
He has been president of the Canadian Hematology Society and the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Research Society of North America, and he was the first elected president of the Association of Hemophilia Clinic Directors of Canada. He has written or co-authored approximately 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field of coagulation and bleeding disorders.
