Red Tube with thin top Specimen Type/Requirements

Container Type = 1 Red Top (Adult) or 1 Red Microtainer (Pediatric)

Minimum Volume = 3 ml Blood

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect 3mL of blood in red top tube for adults and 1mL in red microtainer. Avoid gold top (SST). Record time of collection and time of last dose. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate samples from cells as soon as possible. Repeated freezing and thawing of samples should be avoided

Rejection Criteria: Gel separator, plasma, grossly hemolyzed and icteric samples, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity samples will be rejected.

Stability: Stable for 4 h at room temperature, 1 week at 2-8°C and 1 month frozen.

Transportation: Send to Core Lab as soon as possible
