Green Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Green Top (Li Hep)

Minimum Volume = 6 mL Whole Blood

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

  • Lavender top is also required for hematocrit result.
  • Specimen Handling

    Collection Instructions: Collect sample in green top tube (Li Hep) and Lavender top for hematocrit. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

    Special Instructions: Specimen must be labelled properly. Send whole blood, do not spin sample. Store and send cold. Provide hematocrit for calculation of result

    Rejection Criteria: Gel-separator tubes, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity samples will be rejected.

    Stability: Stable refrigerated at 2-8°C for 14 days and frozen at or below -20°C for more than 14 days.

    Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
