Lavender Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Lavender

Minimum Volume = 2 mL Plasma (EDTA)

Tubes must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect fasting samples. The patient must abstain from smoking tobacco for at least 4 hours prior to collection. To minimize false positives, patients should be resting in the supine position for 15 minutes before and during collection. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Instructions: Samples should be centrifuged and separated as soon as possible from cells and stored frozen at -20C.

The aliquot plasma sample should be stored in Special Chemistry’s freezer #3 (blue rack).

Stability: Samples stored frozen (-20 or -80) are stable up to 1 year.

Rejection Criteria: Serum, unlabeled or samples of none sufficient quantity.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
