Lavender Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = Lavender

Minimum Venous Volume = 1 mL whole blood

Capillary - BD microcollection tube; minimum volume 250µL for running neat, although 125 µL is acceptable run as a dilution

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in a lavender top and send to core lab. Sample should be well mixed at time of collection to prevent platelet clumping. Send sample to corelab immidiately after collection. STAT test due to decreased sensitivity if not processed within 1 hr blood draw. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Stability: For Malaria rapid screen test. if the test cannot be performed immediately, blood may be stored for up to 3 days at 2-30°C.

Transportation: Transport at room temperature within 1 hour of collection.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Plasma, clotted sample, Grossly hemolyzed samples, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity Samples will be rejected.

Required Documentation

Turnaround Time (TAT)

1 hour from time of receipt for Preliminary report. 24 hours for final report.
