Fecal Container Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = Collection kit from Core Lab

Minimum Volume = Entire Collection

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Obtain fecal collection kit from Core Lab and submit entire 24-hour collection. If no specimen is obtained in 24 hours, extend collection to 48 to 72 hours. Ensure both collection container and requisition are correctly labelled. Note: Blood sample for Alpha-1-Antitrypsin must be drawn during the fecal collection period.

Write your "start" and "end" date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Feces and serum must be submitted together. Do not use A1ATR code for serum if clearance (serum & faeces) is ordered. Use MISCS for both serum and faeces and send samples together. Store and send frozen. No approval required.

Stability: Faeces Stability: Room Temperature: 14 days. Refrigerated: 14 days. Frozen: 14 days.
                Serum Stability : Frozen 28days, refrigerated 28days, ambient 28 days.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Leaking or unlabeled specimen will be rejected.

Transportation: Send sample to SMH core lab as soon as possible.
