Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Volume = 2 mL serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Ensure both sample and requisition are lebelled properly. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Stability: Stable at room temperature for 8 hours, refrigerated at 2 to 8 °C and frozen at -15 to -20°C for 1 week.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab at room temperature as soon as possible.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Grossly hemolyzed, lipemic or icteric serum specimens should be avoided. Unlabeled or samples with insufficient quantity will be rejected.
