Test Name

Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH, Arginine Vasopressin,Sidah, Water Deprivation test)

Lavender Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 2 Lavenders

Minimum Volume = 3 mL Plasma (EDTA)

Tubes must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: To obtain basal levels, patient should fast for 12 hours and abstain from drinking fluids, including water, for 6 hours prior to testing (preferred). Testing should not be completed on patients who have recently received radioisotopes because of potential assay interference Specimen for this test must be collected, processed, aliquoted and frozen within 30 minutes of collection. If unable to meet these requirements, patient must be referred to a Dynacare Laboratory and Health Services Centre for collection. Collect specimen in a pre-chilled EDTA tube and place immediately on ice. Pre-chill specimen for 10 minutes. Have patient fast and thirst for 6 hours (no liquids, including water, are allowed).

Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Spin down in a refrigerated centrifuge at approximately 1,000 x G (2,000 rpm for a 20-cm radius centrifuge) for 10 minutes. Remove plasma, carefully avoiding the platelet/buffy coat. Store and send frozen. If the specimen thaws, it is unsuitable for analysis.

Rejection Criteria: Serum, Grossly hemolyzed, thraw specimen, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity Samples will be rejected.

Stability: Sample is stable refrigerated for 24hrs and frozen for 14 days

Transportation: Send sample to core lab on ice as soon as possible.
