Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Volume = 1 ml serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Serum or heparinized plasma collected with or without gel separator. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection and freeze as soon as possible.

Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.

Stability: Stable at room temperature for 1 week, refrigerated at 2–8°C for 1 month and frozen at -15°C to -20°C or lower for 6 months.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
