This procedure is performed for patients who require temporary intravenous therapy and have poor (difficult) blood vessels in their arms. It can be either a single, double or triple lumen (channels) catheter. It is placed into a blood vessel near the neck region. Local anaesthetic is given to numb the area and the catheter is placed with ultrasound guidance.

The procedure takes about 1/2 an hour.

No preparation is required.
