Emergency Department
If you are in a life threatening situation, dial 911 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department. If you are unsure whether it is an emergency, visit your closest hospital emergency department or call Telehealth Ontario, a toll-free telephone line set up by the Government of Ontario, at 1-866-797-0000.
The St. Michael's Hospital emergency department (ED) is open 24 hours per day, seven days per week. We see 55,000 patients annually and get over 1,000 ambulance visits every month. The ED is a regional trauma and a stroke centre. Unique services we offer include geriatric emergency management, cardiac intervention and a needle exchange program for injection drug users. We also house the rotary transition centre, a 24-hour facility that provides temporary refuge to ED visitors who no longer require hospital care but have no place to go in the community.
Please review our procedures before coming to the Hospital.
Location
We are located at the corner of Victoria and Shuter Streets in downtown Toronto, close to the Eaton Centre, one block east and north of Queen and Yonge.
Parking
You cannot park at the emergency entrance; this parking is for ambulances only. There are several privately-run parking lots in the vicinity. Public transportation is highly recommended (exit at the north end of the Queen subway station).
