Critical Care

About Us
Critical Care provides acute care for patients who are generally
unstable, critically ill or in urgent need of advanced monitoring
and intensive treatments of an intensive care unit.
These tasks are achieved by a multidisciplinary team in the four intensive care
units coordinated by the chief of the department, Dr.
Andrew Baker, with the collaboration of his assistant.
Patient care is provided according to latest
scientific evidence adapted to the Hospital environment. Both evidence and experience-based
approaches are used to optimize patient care.
A continuous quality improvement policy has been designed, using an innovative
medical information technology developed by a project manager in collaboration
with the information technology department.
The critical care department has also the mission to develop critical care academic
activities in relation with the University of Toronto. The directors of education,
research, quality and communication are working collaboratively to achieve this
goal.
