Ontario Breast Screening Program

This service is offered to women 50 years of age and over. No referral is needed.

Your visit includes:

  • Clinical examination of breasts by a trained nurse examiner.
  • Information and instruction on breast self examination from a nurse, a video and a pamphlet.
  • A double-view screen mammogram.

Results are sent to you and your family doctor within two weeks of your visit. Women with abnormal results are referred back to their family doctor who may choose to refer their patients to a diagnostic clinic at the Hospital for assessment. You will receive a recall letter.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Women under 50 years of age.
  • Previous breast cancer.
  • Implants or explants.
  • Mammogram within past year.
  • Acute breast symptoms such as masses and discharge.
