Breast Diagnostic Clinic
The Breast Diagnostic Clinic provides a compassionate, patient-centered, and multi-disciplinary approach to help women manage their overall breast health.
The services of the Breast Diagnostic Clinic are offered to women of all ages. Your visit will include:
- An interview with a nurse and where necessary, your nurse will review your breast self-examination with you.
- A meeting and examination with a surgeon. They will then discuss an appropriate treatment plan and set up any follow-up that is needed.
- A mammogram, if one has not been done within the past year.
- Ultrasound or special views (if required).
- The radiologist and surgeon will review your film CD (with your mammogram and ultrasound images).
- A complete written report will be sent to your referring physician.
- The results of all your reports will be available within one week and sent to the physician who referred you to the clinic. You may be called back to discuss your results.
Making An Appointment
The CIBC Breast Centre offers a number of services such as routine screenings and specialized services. You will need a physician’s referral for the tests and consultations listed below:
- Routine screening mammograms
- Breast Ultrasounds
- Breast Biopsies
- Surgical Consultation
You do not need a physician to refer you to the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP).
Clinic Hours
- Monday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (last appointment is at 4:40 p.m.)
- Tuesday - Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. ( last appointment is at 3:40 p.m.)
What do I bring?
Before you leave home please bring the following to your appointment:
- A valid Ontario Health Card, and a St. Michael's Hospital card (if you have one)
- All the medicines that you are taking, including all over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements
- Your family doctor's name, address and phone number
- All your past health information, especially about your breast health and any test results
- Film CDs, mammogram films and ultrasound imaging (if done in the past)**
- Wear a two-piece outfit (e.g. top and a skirt or pants). You will only need to take off your top and wear a gown.
** The physician's office that is arranging for you to be seen at the CIBC Breast Centre (referring physician) can help put your test images on a Film CD. He or she can also help you list all the tests that you have had and at which hospital or clinic they took place.
Arriving at Your Appointment
When you arrive in the clinic on the 3rd Floor of the Queen Wing, check in at the Registration Desk. You will then be directed to the change area and waiting room. A volunteer or clinic staff member will greet you and give you more directions about your appointment type.
Interpretation Services
Interpretation services are offered through a state of the art, dual handset telephone that enables real-time, three-way conversation between health care professionals, patients, and on-demand interpreters.
