Preparing for your Pre-Admission Facility Visit
What is the Pre-Admission
Facility visit?
Pre-Admission refers to the
processes you follow in preparation for surgery. The visit will determine
what procedures are to be followed in your case.
Please download the Pre-Admission
Facility Pamphlet (49 KB pdf file) or pick one up in the Pre-Admission
Facility in the Hospital. Read it and bring it with you to your visit.
It contains full instructions on how to prepare for the visit. The
information we have provided here is intended for further information.
What will my visit
include?
- A nurse will assess
your condition.
- The procedures to
be followed before, during, and after surgery will be explained
to you.
- You will be able to
ask questions about the procedures, the surgery, and the Hospital.
- A doctor will examine
your physical condition and medical history.
- If required, you will
have blood tests, X-rays, ECG or other test(s) as ordered by the
surgeon.
- As required, the doctor
may refer you to an anesthetist, medical specialist or endocrinologist
prior to admission further assess you medical condition and to determine
whether surgery can take place the same day as admission. We will
try to coordinate appointments with your pre-admission visit.
How long will my
visit take?
Your visit may be as brief
as one and a half hours. However, plan to spend in excess of five hours
in the Pre-Admission Facility if your surgeon has requested any consults
