Alert - Potential fraud

Toronto, February 12, 2016

St. Michael's was contacted this week by a patient reporting what we think is a potential case of fraud. The patient was contacted at home by someone claiming to be from the Federal Bureau of Collections of Canada acting on behalf of St Michaels. They were asking for personal information on behalf of St. Michael’s. This is NOT a company St. Michael's is currently engaged with.

If you receive a similar call or email, please be vigilant about sharing personal health information, particularly over the phone. If you can’t confirm it is a legitimate source, you should always call back to the hospital directly to confirm.

Any questions, please contact privacy@smh.ca.
