Dr. Andreas Laupacis named new chair of Health Quality Ontario

Congratulations to Dr. Andreas Laupacis, executive director of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, on being selected the new chair of Health Quality Ontario, effective immediately.

“Our government is privileged to have Dr. Andreas Laupacis join the board as chair and I am confident that under his leadership, HQO will continue to support the health care transformation agenda,” said Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

Dr. Laupacis brings extensive health system expertise to the role. In addition to his Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute appointment, he is the Canada Research Chair in Health Policy and Citizen Engagement and past president of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences.

“Andreas’ knowledge of the health care system will be a great asset in helping HQO advance the government’s quality improvement agenda. His commitment to transforming the health care system will ultimately benefit us all,” said Dr. Arthur Slutsky, vice-president of Research.

Dr. Laupacis is taking over from interim board chair Marie Fortier.Health Quality Ontario is an independent government agency, created under the Commitment to the Future of Medicare Act on September 12, 2005. In June 2008, the Ontario government tasked Health Quality Ontario with measuring and reporting to the public on the quality of long-term care and resident satisfaction.
