St. Michael’s is home to leading researchers, educators and clinicians — dedicated professionals making new scientific discoveries, generating novel therapies and developing innovative training programs. It is also known for expertise in three key areas of research – health economics, clinical trials and patient registries, and knowledge translation.

“It only made sense to combine these groups under one roof and offer our expertise and services to the broader clinical research community, as the HUB Health Research Solutions, to better meet the diverse needs of the clinical research community,” said Dr. Muhammad Mamdani, director of the Applied Health Research Centre.

Launched on April 22, the HUB is a unified clinical research services group made up of St. Michael’s Centre for ExceLlence in Economic Analysis Research, led by Dr. Jeffrey Hoch; the BreaKThrough Knowledge Translation Services, led by Dr. Sharon Straus; and AHRC.

“The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute’s unique operational infrastructure along with our world-renowned methodologists enable us to offer services that are unmatched by other academic or contract research organizations,” said Dr. Arthur Slutsky, vice-president of research.

“Researchers would typically have to go to a number of different sites if they needed help with a systematic review, clinical trial co-ordination, and knowledge translation services on a given project. Now, with the HUB, they’re able to come to one place for help with designing a streamlined study from the beginning to the end.”

The HUB will act as a single point of contact for its academic and commercial partners and provide a harmonized approach to designing and conducting health research, spanning clinical trials, patient registries, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, knowledge translation and health economics.

“Our partners include academic investigators, small, medium, and large organizations, commercial and not-for-profits – groups with diverse needs,” said Dr. Mamdani. “Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, cost-effective and customized solutions so that research projects can successfully inform patient care and policy decisions. Our world-class infrastructure and scientific talent enables us to not design impactful studies but also implement them to the highest quality possible.”
