Toronto, January 14, 2013
A long-time Ontario health care executive is the new executive vice-president and chief administrative officer for St. Michael’s Hospital. Vas Georgiou, formerly the chief administrative officer at Infrastructure Ontario and St. Joseph’s Health Care, assumed the position today.
“I am excited to join a hospital with such a tremendous reputation for excellent patient care, research and education,” Georgiou said. “St. Michael's is well known for both its treatment of complex injuries and illnesses as well as for the vulnerable populations of the inner city. I am looking forward to making a contribution to the future of this important health care institution.”
Before joining Infrastructure Ontario when it began in 2006, Georgiou was the executive vice-president and chief operating officer at St. Joseph’s Health Care. There, he led the development and expansion of dialysis, surgery, ambulatory care and chemotherapy.
Georgiou has also held numerous senior management positions in the health care and hospitality industries, including the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto East General Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children.
“St. Michael’s is lucky to have someone of Vas’ caliber and expertise in health care development and government join our team,” president and CEO Dr. Robert Howard said. “His leadership will no doubt guide us through some of our most exciting projects over the next several years, including the construction of our new 17-storey patient care tower.”
