The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute received an honourable mention this week in the eighth annual PUG Awards, the people’s choice awards for architecture in Toronto.

The LKSKI, designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects, was nominated in the commercial building category. The winner in the category was another Diamond Schmitt building, the Centre for Green Cities at Evergreen Brick Works.

In fact, Diamond Schmitt took all three citations for three distinct building types at the awards ceremony June 13 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.

“It’s gratifying to receive such widespread acclaim for our buildings in the important arena of public opinion,” said Jack Diamond, principal with the Toronto-based architecture firm.

The PUG Awards ranked 43 new residential and commercial buildings from best to worst as judged by members of the public who cast on-line ballots. The PUGs are held annually in Toronto to draw attention to the city’s rapidly expanding urban fabric. For the complete list of projects, see www.pugawards.com.
