Toronto, March 24, 2008

RobotSt. Michael's Hospital is the first hospital in Toronto to acquire a new generation of advanced surgical robotic device, the Da Vinci System. This platform will revolutionize the way that complex operations can be carried out through tiny incisions and very short hospital stays.

Doctors Kenneth Pace and John Honey are bringing this exciting new technology to patients in the Hospital and the GTA.

Dr. Pace performed the first robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (an operation performed to cure prostate cancer) in Toronto on Thursday, March 20, 2008. Together with Dr. Honey, they will be performing the first robotic-assisted pyeloplasty (an operation to fix a blocked kidney) in Toronto today.
Keep posted for more news on these exciting firsts.
