Dr. Houston is Vice President, Education and Anesthetist-in-chief at St. Michael’s. She joined St. Michael’s in 1997, became Anesthetist-in-chief in 2000, and was appointed Vice President, Education, in January 2009. Dr. Houston has served as Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee. In this role she introduced a program for ongoing quality improvement and performance review of all physicians in the institution. She has also helped to align the hospital physician privilege categories with the University of Toronto Clinical Faculty Policy.
Dr. Houston is a Professor and Vice-Chair, Education, in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Howard is President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Michael's, beginning his mandate in April 2009. After obtaining degrees in industrial engineering from the University of Toronto and in medicine from McMaster University, Dr. Howard joined St. Michael's in 1982 as a staff cardiologist with a special interest in echocardiography. Since 1998, he served as St. Michael’s Chief Medical Officer and in 2002 was named Executive Vice President of Programs and Education. In keeping with St. Michael's role as a teaching hospital, Dr. Howard continues to teach at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and until recently practiced clinical cardiology one day a week.
Dr. Laupacis is Executive Director of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s. Dr. Laupacis is a general internist and health services researcher with more than 270 peer-reviewed papers. He has held faculty positions at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Ottawa, and the University of Toronto. From 2000 to 2006, Dr. Laupacis was the President and CEO of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, one of Canada's largest health services research organizations where he is currently an adjunct scientist. Dr. Laupacis's research interests include clinical trials, health services research, health policy, and knowledge translation.
Dr. Rotstein is Surgeon-in-Chief in the Department of Surgery and Division of General Surgery, and Associate Director of Basic Science at St. Michael's. At the University of Toronto, Dr. Rotstein also serves as Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery and Director of the Institute of Medical Science. As a scientist in the Keenan Research Centre of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael's, Dr. Rotstein pursues his research interests relating to the impact of major trauma on organ injury. Dr. Rotstein also serves as Vice-Chair of the Surgical Forum Committee, American College of Surgeons, and as Chair of the Expert Panel in General Surgery, Ontario.
Dr. Slutsky is Vice President, Research at St. Michael's and director of the interdepartmental division of critical care medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Slutsky’s work focuses on translational research in the context of the intensive care unit with a focus on mechanical ventilation. Dr. Slutsky has published more than 350 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, and editorials. Honours include election to the American Society of Clinical Investigation, William Goldie Prize for Research, the Sandoz Senior Investigator Award, election to the Fleischner Society for Thoracic Imaging and Diagnosis, and Recognition for Scientific Accomplishments Award, American Thoracic Society.
