The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael's Hospital will consist of two buildings – the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Centre in Health Care Education – and will be physically linked to the clinical part of the hospital.
The Knowledge Institute is scheduled to open in the summer of 2010 and has been made possible through generous donations from long time friends and Canadian philanthropists Pat and Barbara Keenan; one of the world's great philanthropists, Li Ka-shing; the Ontario and Canadian governments; City of Toronto and many other donors. Until the new building is opened, scientists at St. Michael's Hospital will continue to work in their current labs and offices in the Hospital and surrounding area.
The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute will be home to a group of researchers, educators and clinicians dedicated to generating new knowledge, innovative education, and exemplary clinical care.
