Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
The Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Healthcare Education Centre
BUILDING
Breaking new ground.
Form and function come together dramatically in the new home of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s. Designed by Diamond and Schmitt Architects, the new complex is both a statement and an enabler: it announces an ambitious partnership between top-tier research and education and helps make that collaboration possible.
The nine-storey complex in downtown Toronto, at Victoria and Shuter streets, is made up of two linked buildings — the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Healthcare Education Centre.
The Keenan Research Centre brings together St. Michael’s research community in one location. The 25,204-square-metre facility accommodates a wide variety of research and will easily scale as research programs grow. The Li Ka Shing International Healthcare Education Centre offers 6,231 square metres of teaching space for a growing number of trainees and will meet the demand for continuing professional development for all staff and physicians of the St. Michael’s community.
Construction on the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute is expected to be largely completed by the fall of 2010.
