$2.4 million was raised by St. Michael's Hospital physicians for the "Advancing care. Every day." campaign. It's hard to know what is more impressive about the Physicians campaign: the fact that $2.4 million was raised by full-time, active St. Michael's Hospital physicians or that every physician contributed to meet the 100 percent participation goal. Or perhaps it is the fact that only one hospital in all of North America had previously achieved full doctor participation before, and that was St. Michael's Hospital's in its 1998 Urban Angel campaign. But, without a doubt, it is apparent that the commitment of St. Michael's Hospital physicians runs deep and strong to both patients and the Hospital itself.
"I am tremendously proud of my colleagues. There is a special feeling between the physicians and the Hospital," says orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Waddell, chair of the last Physicians campaign.
Dr. Waddell notes that it was "almost natural" to expect 100 percent participation for this campaign based on their previous success.
Bigger Challenges
"The challenges for the second campaign were a much bigger medical staff and that we had added a significant number of physicians who used to work at the Wellesley Hospital and were now working at St. Michael's Hospital," says Waddell. But in true St. Michael's Hospital fashion, everyone worked together, resulting in 100 percent of the doctors giving their commitment in order to achieve the ultimate goal, which is advancing patient care every day.
