Li Ka-shing

Li Ka-shing is one of the world's great philanthropists. The charitable foundations established by Mr. Li have supported numerous ventures with grants, sponsorships and commitments totalling over $1 billion. Mr. Li also founded Shantou University in 1981 in Shantou, China, to engineer reforms in China's education system.

As the first grant recipient from the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation, St. Michael's Hospital will establish the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and become one of seven sites in the world that have received major grants under the Li Ka Shing Foundation. The other sites include Cambridge University, Institut Pasteur, Hong Kong University, Shantou University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of California at Berkeley.
