This is an exciting time to be involved at St. Michael's Hospital. In an era where public discussion often focuses on problems in the health care system, we are taking a bold step to do something to address the most serious challenge.
The issue is that lifesaving treatments exist in laboratories around the world, but it can take 10 to 15 years before they reach patients. This is a global problem.
Building the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute – comprised of the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Centre in Health Care Education – marks the launch the next era of St. Michael's Hospital and is the focus of our new $140 million campaign called "Advancing care. Every day." The campaign will help us build the Knowledge Institute and also allow us to renovate and improve our women's health centre, support life-saving research and help purchase important new medical equipment.
