When Aynsley Patrician Deluce and Matthew Ross Ball wed on May 6, 2006,
they found a creative way to both capture the spirit of Aynsley's
ailing grandmother and benefit others afflicted with cancer. Instead of
buying wedding favours for their guests, Aynsley and Matthew, with the
help of her parents – Foundation Board member William Deluce and
his wife Ann, a long-time hospital volunteer – made a donation to
St. Michael's Hospital's Oncology department.
"My grandmother, who we sadly lost this summer, was deteriorating quickly from liver cancer and we knew she wouldn't be strong enough to attend," says Aynsley. "Matt and I decided that there was no better way to honour her spirit and her memory than to make a donation to St. Michael's Hospital."
Made in honour of physician Dr. Jim Paupst and his colleagues at St. Michael's Hospital, who supported the Deluce family throughout a challenging year, the donation will support patient care education and training for front-line nurses.
