Medical Education

Postgraduate Medical Education

St. Michael's, home to more than 300 residents and clinical fellows at any one time, is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. We are committed to providing an unsurpassed educational experience to all our postgraduate students and are dedicated to upholding and representing St. Michael's Hospital's corporate culture, missions and values.

Unique to St. Michael’s Hospital is the position of Director of Postgraduate Medical Education. Introduced in 2005, it was created to provide a voice for resident education within hospital. The current Director is Dr. Glen Bandiera.

“St. Michael's Hospital is home to the most diverse residency experience in the city with rotations in 34 different specialties. We are proud of our many “firsts” – we were the first to establish a hospital postgraduate education committee, a hospital-wide physician annual awards ceremony, an annual holiday party for residents, a true interprofessional student centre and a web-based stipend system to name a few. In 2010 we look forward to the opening of the new Li Ka Shing International Centre in HealthCare Education and hosting the first international conference on Faculty Development. It's an exciting time to be involved in medical education!” Dr. Glen Bandiera, Director, Postgraduate Education
