At St. Michael's Hospital, we offer our students a wide range of educational
experiences with different specialty areas and interdisciplinary teams.
We are fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and have affiliation
agreements with many other academic facilities.
St. Michael's Hospital
is the host to the ACPAC (Advanced
Clinician Practitioner in Arthritis Care) program, a leading clinical and
academic training program for advanced practice practitioners in
arthritis/musculoskeletal care.
We offer clinical placements in the following areas:
Audiology, Chiropody, Clinical Dietetics, Echo, ECG, Ethics, Medical Laboratories,
MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Perfusion, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy,
Radiological Technology, Recreation Therapy, Social Work, Speech-Language
Pathology, Spiritual Care, Ultrasound, Vascular Ultrasound.
If you're a student inquiring about a placement
- Make sure you meet our pre-placement requirements:
- Current affiliation agreement between St. Michael's Hospital
and your academic site.
- Immunizations: TB 2 step, MMR, status
of Varicella.
- Fit testing (can be provided on site for a small
fee).
- Insurance for out of province placements.
- Placements are negotiated between the clinical educator at St.
Michael's Hospital and the program coordinator at your academic site.

- When you come for a placement, you will go through the following
typical entry and exit process:
- student registration
- receive an identification badge
- orientation to the hospital and unit
- infection control training
- privacy and confidentiality information
- WSIB
- computer training
- goal and objective setting
- evaluation timelines
- clinical placement evaluation
To arrange a placement
- Contact us at 416-864-6060 Ext. 3818 to discuss the possibility
of arranging an affiliation agreement. It is St. Michael's Hospital's
usual practice to invite academic sites to sign our affiliation agreement.
- The typical affiliation agreement negotiation process is as follows:
- academic
program review
- internal stakeholder consultation
- document
preparation
- contract submission to academic affiliate
- final
review/approval
- internal stakeholder communication
- At a minimum for all agreements we require:
- Completion of #2 above
- Evidence that the program's objectives fit with the
Hospital's mission and vision
- Evidence of appropriate insurance coverage
- The program to be accredited by a recognized accreditor of
the discipline
To arrange an Interprofessional Education Experience (IPE)
- Our interprofessional teams have spoken about their experiences
to students and can do this for you as well.
- We are working with some of our academic partners so that in 2007
we will hold our first IPE structured clinical placements.
