Interprofessional collaboration is at the core of how we provide patient care. Professionals within Health Disciplines play an important part in how we deliver that care.

We believe in a shared governance practice model. All professions are represented at our interprofessional practice committee, giving each one a voice when decisions are made.

Education is central to the success of St. Michael's as an academic health sciences centre. Our vision for Health Disciplines education reflects a focus on the ultimate aim of high quality education: Excellent patient outcomes through leadership in health professional education.

The creation of the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Healthcare Education Centre, which together form the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, represents an exciting new opportunity to embrace emerging trends in healthcare education. Health Disciplines play an integral role in this vision and we are committed to the continuous professional development of both our practitioners and our teaching clinicians to help us achieve that mandate.

Our innovative Office of Academic Affairs (Health Disciplines) establishes relationships with academic partners, acts as a resource for clinical educators, coordinates continuing education and professional development opportunities for our educators, and plays an in-house ombudsman role for addressing the needs of our students.

Our clinicians and educators span the globe to share our scholarly pursuits. For example, during a 12 month period, our clinicians and educators delivered oral and poster presentations in 15 cities across three continents.
