Helipad structural steel fireproofing
The structural beams after being sprayed with a fire-proof coating and painted.
Details: The helipad at St. Michael’s Hospital is supported by structural steel beams, which are located underneath the landing for the helicopter. If there’s a fire, the structural steel loses strength as the temperature increases. In order to prevent the steel beams from heating up and collapsing in such a scenario, a layer of special spray coating and paint were sprayed over the beams. This method is a part of passive fire protection which aims to prevent or slow the spread of fire.
