Construction notices & clinic and office moves

Parts of St. Michael’s will be affected by construction as significant upgrades are made to existing hospital space and a new patient care tower is built. And as a result, some doctors’ offices, clinics and other services will move.

Before your next appointment, call 416-360-4000 or visit the hospital's clinic and department locator to confirm where your clinic or your doctor’s office is located.

If you have any questions about how construction may affect your visit, please contact BuildingSMH@smh.ca. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Current notices and upcoming moves

CICU has been relocated to the CVICU until further notice

Effective March 19, 2020, the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) on 7 Bond was relocated to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) on 4 Cardinal Carter. Please note:

  • Visitors for patients admitted to the CICU should be directed to the CVICU on 4CC. The closest elevators to the CVICU are the Cardinal Carter South elevators.
  • In previous communication, we indicated some Echo and Vascular Lab patients will be seen in the CICU to accommodate renovations to the lab. Those renovations are pausing at this time and Echo and Vascular Lab patients will continue to be seen in the existing lab space.

The CICU’s inpatients and equipment were moved without issue and we thank everyone who assisted with the relocation. The CICU will remain relocated until further notice.

Echo and Vascular Lab renovations at St. Michael’s beginning Feb. 24

Starting Friday, Feb. 21, the Echo and Vascular Lab will be emptied to prepare for its renovations as part of the larger BRAIN&HEART Centre renovations. Effective Feb. 24, the Echo and Vascular Lab’s services will be moved to two different areas on the 7th floor: outpatients and some inpatients will be seen in a temporary Echo and Vascular Lab space just south of the existing space, and other inpatients will be seen inside the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Construction has not yet begun and we will update this page when it does. Shortly before construction begins, hoarding will be installed around the Echo and Vascular Lab which will result in a lack of access to the Bond Central elevators on the 7th floor. Please see the attached map for a visual demonstration of the planned hoarding and relocated Echo and Vascular Lab services.

There will be signage on the 7th floor to help patients, visitors, and staff navigate the relocated Echo and Vascular Lab services. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we undergo these exciting renovations. Questions? Please contact Kim Boswell, CLM, Heart & Vascular Program, St. Michael’s.
