Accreditation

CCHSA Accreditation LogoIn May 2006, St. Michael’s Hospital received an outstanding report and full accreditation from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA), a national, non-profit, non-government organization.

The results, based on a thorough analysis of the Hospital’s services and methods against a set of national standards, were exceptional. St. Michael’s Hospital exceeded its 2003 results and the ratings were head and shoulders above the national average across all accreditation criteria.

St. Michael’s Hospital was praised for developing:

  • New best practices such as the FAST HUGS program, an initiative aimed at cuing health care staff to review care based on best practices.
  • An interactive emergency preparedness training plan.
  • Community engagement activity by the Hospital’s inner city health program.
  • The culture of caring and values-driven approach at the Hospital.

St. Michael’s Hospital is one of thousands of organizations across the country accredited by CCHSA in an effort to help health service organizations examine and improve the quality of care and service provided to patients. Key areas examined during the process, include client/patient care, delivery of service, information management practices, human resources development and management, governance and management of the environment.

Accreditation granted in 2006 is valid until 2009 when the Hospital’s services will be reexamined.
